Sri. Jayachamarajendra (Govt.) Polytechnic popularly known as S. J. P. was established in the year 1943, as S. J. OCCUPATIONAL INSTITUTE by the great visionary and statesman Sir. M. Visveswaraya, for providing value-based technical education to the then beleaguered student community of erstwhile Mysore State. Since its inception, Sri. Jayachamarajendra Occupational Institute now called as S.J. (Govt.) Polytechnic has been rendering yeoman service to the young citizens of Bangalore through engineering education. This Institute is located in the heart of the city amidst serene surroundings of its campus.S. J. (Govt.) Polytechnic was offering 3 year Diploma Courses in 12 disciplines till 2005 – 06 including traditional courses. From the academic year 2006 – 07 ,with the introduction of two more disciplines - Mechatronics & Civil (Environmental), the number of programmes in Engg. & Technology has gone upto 14. S. J. (Govt.) Polytechnic also boasts of a Post Diploma Course in Software Testing skills. All the laboratories, workshops and library are well equipped and modernised with the assistance of the World Bank . The institute has well trained faculty, supporting and ministerial staff to train the students to meet the needs of the Industry. Today, S. J.(Govt.) Polytechnic has a student strength of over 2500 and employee strength of 250 on its rolls, making it one of the biggest technical institute of its kind in Asia.
